..a healthy balance
As a motion designer your work week looks pretty much like every desk-bound work week out there, you are glued to your screen, mouse and keyboard for 9 - 10 hours a day and don't see much 'outside' except for the odd coffee break. Ok, you get to play around with fun looking animations and pretty illustrations, which granted, makes this job a little like being left alone at the Lego corner in kindergarten. Still, on Friday evenings you wonder - what would a life of working outdoors be like? Would it be exciting, would it be tough, would it be unexpectedly different?
From January 2015 ’til April 2016 I worked as a Producer/Director on a web series called Wild Weekend , which focused on outdoor activities and adventure travel. For the first time, this gave me the opportunity to leave my desk for a week of work outdoors. Being at the location of one of the most stunning landscapes gives you this incredible energy to work long days and at times even work during the night. Now I am trying to switch work environments every month or so for that one week outdoors, but weirdly enough coming back to my desk now has something exhilarating too. My work outdoors made me appreciate the cosiness of working at a desk, in a comfortable chair, sheltered from the elements and where being creative is as simple as moving a 'mouse'. A healthy balance is what I need.
